Oceans

Nicole Wong

Fourth Grade Class

Let us introduce you to our exciting Passport To Knowledge project

Our Passport To Knowledge showcase centers around all things Oceans! As part of this year long study, we learned the in’s and out’s of our five oceans including: the animals that live in it, vessels that explore them, marine habitats and even different marine careers that study and navigate our oceans. We made this study come to life through our 3D animal models, habitat dioramas and our very own mock career day! We had so much fun researching, learning, interviewing and building our showcase and hope that you enjoy it as much as we have!

Our 5 Oceans

Ocean Zone Song

The Sunlight Zone is the most shallow and fun

Which allows for some time in the sun.

Most life is here so be aware

There are fishies everywhere.

There are sharks with pointy teeth,

Maybe even some coral reefs.

This is where the people go for fun

But be careful of being out in too much sun.

Here you can find a lantern fish

But you won’t find them on a dish.

The fish look like they glow in the dark.

In this zone, you won’t find many sharks

There is no sunlight which means no plants

Can photosynthesis happen here.

No it can’t.

The Midnight Zone is the zone that’s next

The marine life here is quite immense

Some can make their own light

Other than that, it’s out of sight

And when your that deep down you will have a lack of air

So only go down there if you aren’t scared.

The Abyss is deep but not the deepest

There’s only one zone right beneath it.

If you swim that far you won’t be breathing .

The temperature is below freezing

The marine life here have no bones

That’s a major characteristic of this zone

In this zone there are no plants

With no sunlight, they just can’t!

Last we’re in the trenches which are heated by the Earth’s core

All the little fish you know are no more

There’s no light,

So don’t go thinking it’s gonna be bright

There are no reefs and there is no light

It’s kinda like a scary Halloween night

We don’t quite know what all is down there

But we know it’s not what we see everywhere

We’re in the end zone

But don’t worry because it’s not gonna grow.

We hope our rap wasn’t too long

But seriously, did you enjoy this song?

We’re three proud teachers of these awesome girls and boys

Hopefully our rapping didn’t cause a lot of noise.

We hope you learned some more about the ocean blue

We’ll see you all later after this project is through.

Topography Maps

In partnership with Mr. Byrne’s art class, students studied maps of Tybee Island and created a topographic map of it. Each student chose a different perspective of Tybee Island and included unique details to their very own map.
