Fred Devyatkin is the orchestra director and string teacher at St. Andrew’s for all ages. Beginning his violin studies at the age of six, Fred attended the Manhattan School of Music as a violin performance major, where he studied with Erick Friedman. He continued his violin studies with NY Philharmonic concertmaster, David Nadien, until 1982, when he won an audition with the Savannah Symphony Orchestra. After moving to Savannah, Fred traveled to Atlanta on a regular basis to study with William Preucil, Atlanta Symphony Concertmaster, and present concertmaster of the Cleveland Orchestra. In 1992, Fred was named Music Director of the Beaufort Symphony Orchestra, and in 1999 he founded the Beaufort Youth Orchestra. When he is not teaching, playing his violin or conducting a symphony orchestra, Fred is taking photographs, riding his bike or swimming. Fred’s wife Katie is a professional violinist, and they have two children, Ellie and Peter.
